Mark Albertson is an Estate Planning Attorney with a focus on families with special needs kids. Through his 20+ years of experience as an attorney assisting families with their estate planning, and his comprehensive knowledge of the issues involved in planning for families with special needs children, Mark offers parents and guardians the opportunity to share the planning burden.

Mark is Senior Counsel at Albertson Law Group, P.S., a 39 year old law firm in Kent, Washington, and focuses on estate planning for parents and guardians of special needs kids.

 

Mark is formerly a psychiatric social worker.  It was his work with the mentally ill that led him to become an attorney.

 

Mark is Program Counsel for the Washington Charitable Pooled Charitable Trust and Oregon Charitable Pooled Trust, and advises families nationwide on planning solutions.  He is an active member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners. Mark's work focuses on assisting families with the challenges of incapacity and disability, including estate planning, and assisting with the qualification of government benefits, guardianships and advocacy for good care.

Mark received his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1982, and his Juris Doctorate Degree from St. Mary's University School of Law in 1987.

Mark is a popular and entertaining speaker at leadership, business and estate planning seminars, and has taught both professionals and lay people estate planning and charitable giving. He has taught seminars at Merrill Lynch, American Express Financial Advisors, New York Life, State Farm Insurance, Charles Schwab, Smith Barney and Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance, and has spoken to groups such as the South Puget Sound Estate Planning Council, the Institute for Management Accountants, the Seattle Association of Life Underwriters, Twin Harbor Association of Life Underwriters, Rainier Association of Life Underwriters, Tacoma Pierce County Association of Life Underwriters and the Washington Society of Enrolled Agents. Mark is a faculty member with Holland America Cruise Line’s Seminar at Sea program. Additionally, Mark has spoken to private and public employees of Boeing, IBM, the Bellevue School District, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Washington State Dental Association and numerous community, civic and religious groups.

Mark is a member of the Washington State Bar Association; American Bar Association; Estate Planning Council of Seattle; National Business Advisory Council, Seattle Association of Life Underwriters; International Coaching Federation, the National Speaker's Association, Washington Planned Giving Council, National Committee on Planned Giving.

 

Mark is Past President of the Rotary Club of Southcenter, and is Past President of the Board of Directors, Highline Community Hospital Foundation; Past President, Mediation Consortium of Washington State; former Trustee, Washington State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division; Board of Directors of the Kent Downtown Partnership and serves on the Board of Directors of the Kent Chamber of Commerce.
